Children’s Center

What sets The Children’s Center at Sabal Palms Health Care Center apart from other pediatric sub-acute centers is that everything is designed with the child’s needs in mind. Our nurturing, homey atmosphere is a place where our extraordinary staff lead stimulating, therapeutic and educational programs. Because we are located on an extensive senior living and health care campus, the children are able to easily participate in activities with the older adult residents. This helps to create meaningful interactions between generations!

Our Pediatric Unit is equipped to handle a wide range of infants and children who are medically complex and dependent on technology to continue to grow and develop.

  • Pediatric nursing and respiratory therapists on staff 24-hours per day
  • Physical, occupational and speech/language therapy provided by pediatric therapists
  • Educational opportunities available through transportation to local schools or through the “Hospital/Homebound” program
  • Outpatient therapy (patients who do not stay overnight)
  • Playroom with aquarium
  • Family support in caring for children with needs
  • Overnight accommodations for parents

Every bed space has a window view with ample room to store special personal treasures, as well as all life support equipment. All of our ceilings are decorated with hand-painted murals, from outer space scenes to underwater themes.

School and learning are a child’s work. Children at Sabal Palms either attend our full-service on-site one-room school with internet access that’s tailored to their needs, or attend public school in the community. Pinellas County School System provides specialized teachers who develop individualized education programs for patients as early as 3 years of age.
